Hopefully I Won’t Starve

I just spent everyday of the past week recording. I completed my Dear Esther video series without issue, however this week I tried

to start a new series with the game Don’t Starve. It’s a surprisingly addicting survival game with a whimsical, slightly dreary/morbid kind of art style. Think Tim Burton. I’ve been playing a lot of it lately and figured I’d do my own shot at a Let’s Play of the game, since it seems like a very popular game for doing LPs.

I was finally able to get a non-glitched recording on my 9th attempt. Yes that’s right. I played the first 3 days of this game with a new map 9 times before I finally got my recordings to work right. I can’t tell you how happy I am that it finally worked because I was really close to giving up and trying a new game. For some reason whenever I went to watch the recording, the visuals would glitch out. At first it seemed like it would freeze up for about 2 minutes after auto-saves. Then I updated some display drivers and tried turning down some settings. Then the viswendyuals would freeze up randomly for no reason. On attempt 7 and 8 I got through 2 in-game days fine before the visuals would freeze up. Then on attempt 8 I got the added pleasure of having some of my mic audio randomly clipped out as well.

Finally I decided to just record 2 in-game days and stop there. And it worked! Yay! Now I can actually play the game and get on with the video series!

I really do recommend the game. As I said in the video (I think? It’s hard to remember what I said in this take that got published compared to the other ones), I kept ignoring this game on Steam for the longest time thinking it wasn’t something I would be interested in. But like I said in my Dear Esther post, you have to try out genres and games that might not be immediately appealing to you – otherwise you might be missing out on something you would love! And for the amount of hours you can spend on this game, the price is great. Also keep in mind that the Steam Summer Sale is coming up soon. I wouldn’t doubt if this game goes on sale, so keep your eye out for it.

And here is my first video in said series:
